The Turek Forest District is located in the area of the Central Polish Lowlands, on the Turek Upland.
The Upland is divided by the River Warta flowing from south to north. The area rests at about 95 to 185 m above see level. Apart from natural hills and hummocks, there are also human made forms of landscape, related to the lignite mining. They have been formed on former external dumping grounds, some with the altitude of 80 m.
The District is located in the River Odra basin and in the reception basin of the Rivers Warta and Prosa. In the western part of the District numerous water heads can be found where small tributaries of the River Warta begin. In some areas, as a result of open cast lignite mining, the ground water level has been considerably lowered, which caused the dehydration of many areas, including forests.
In the Turek District the forests are scattered far and wide among many plots of private forests. There are 267 forest complexes in the area, of which only 5 encompass more than 500 ha. The majority are coniferous forests.

Forms of nature conservation
A valuable site of floodplain forest and forest grazing land in the River Niwa old river bed is protected as the “Uroczysko Zieleń” Nature and Landscape Area.
Areas by the River Warta in the eastern part of the District and at the edge of the Czepów forest range in the Vale of the River Ner have been included in the NATURA 2000 conservation project. They form a bird refuge which is unique in Europe.
More than half of the District’s area is located on the Złote Góry and Uniejów areas of protected landscape. In the Turek District there are also 16 nature monuments, which are old trees, sites of protected vascular plants and boulders.
The District’s area is also the nesting place of white-tail eagle and black stork. In backwoods it is possible to come across elks, red deer, roe deer, wild boars, hears, foxes and badgers.
The Recreation Centre in Linne is open all year round. It is situated in the forest near Dobra, 12 km from the Jeziorsko reservoir. In the Centre there are two bedrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen and a common room with a fireplace, which can sit 20 people. For day visitors and mushroom pickers there are 18 forest car parks. In the Linne, Zdrojki and Krwony Sub-Districts there are places with fire sites, designated for open-air events.
Forest education in the District is mainly addressed to children and youths. Educational activities include field lessons taught by foresters, talks and lectures at schools, celebrations and special events, as well as competitions, on knowledge of nature, arts, and photography. Adults enjoy educational trails organized along hiking and cycling paths, which present various aspects of forest, nature and local history.
